From the meandersome blog: “I was pleasantly surprised to arrive at Harbour Square one time to be greeted by a scene such as this. I hate to admit it, but it was hard to believe I was actually staring straight at the Manila Bay and Roxas Blvd. It was clean and unspoilt, much like how I remember it way back when I was living in Malate in the 70s.

But there was something else about it that made all the difference from the rest of the Metro. Almost everywhere you go – EDSA, C5, South Super Highway, SLEX – your vision’s unfailingly assaulted by the sight of hideous mammoth billboards that block the sky and do nothing but massage and inflate advertisers’ egos. Except here. It’s a shame I only noticed it later on and from afar.

Just the same, here’s to recognizing the value of billboard-free streets. Tonight’s Light is for you, Mayor Lim. *Clink*”—Me, too, I was pleasantly surprised that Manila has a skyline pala. Sosyal! (photo from

My name is Terrie. I write for a living and blog for pleasure. Some days, I get up in the morning and know precisely what kind of day it is. At other times, I get knocked over for a loop. People seem to like confiding in me. When I was younger, I thought I knew everything and can tell you what you need to do if you ask me. Now that I'm older, I realize I don't know anything. That's been my motivation for the blog and for writing. To figure out the unknown and unknowable.
