From the meandersome blog: “I was pleasantly surprised to arrive at Harbour Square one time to be greeted by a scene such as this. I hate to admit it, but it was hard to believe I was actually staring straight at the Manila Bay and Roxas Blvd. It was clean and unspoilt, much like how I remember it way back when I was living in Malate in the 70s.
But there was something else about it that made all the difference from the rest of the Metro. Almost everywhere you go – EDSA, C5, South Super Highway, SLEX – your vision’s unfailingly assaulted by the sight of hideous mammoth billboards that block the sky and do nothing but massage and inflate advertisers’ egos. Except here. It’s a shame I only noticed it later on and from afar.
Just the same, here’s to recognizing the value of billboard-free streets. Tonight’s Light is for you, Mayor Lim. *Clink*”—Me, too, I was pleasantly surprised that Manila has a skyline pala. Sosyal! (photo from meandersome.blogspot.com)
