From Carrie’s email: And on Friday Terrie made it to the office at 830?! Surreal, this is 😛
Yep, Carrie, surreal nga, hahaha! I couldn’t believe I had it in me! I remember back in CRC, Exie used to sit me down and talk to me coz I was always late! I couldn’t—just couldn’t—make it to the office by 8.30! And look at me now, hehehe…Guess miracles can happen.
But I told you guys my boss is a stickler for punctuality, right? I mean, we have a Bundy clock! I swear this office is a combi of hi-lo! I was issued an electronic pass that opens the glass door at the reception and most doors here so I’m supposed to have it with me at all times. But we have a bundy clock! Granted, it’s a nice bundy as far as bundy clocks go, but hellow! ;D
Anyways, if I make it to the office later than 8.45, I have to take my time card, now marked with a red time record and have our executive director sign it—sign it! 😀 I am not about to let that happen on my first week, hahaha! And three lates means you have to come in for a month of saturdays. It says so in the company policy. No way am I gonna do that—unless absolutely necessary. 😉
But no sitting down with Emily—I mean, Amy!—yet! She’s one busy gal as well so I haven’t so much as asked her about herself even. Work muna. I have to get this April-May issue off the ground. By getting this done, I prove to myself that I can handle the job.
Hey, I’m now a week old here! Eggziting! And this early, I already got “smacked down” by my boss, haha! Had a traditional meeting with the exec director yesterday afternoon. (Apparently, that’s what he does to all new employees, formally welcome them into the company and tell them what to expect.) Anyways, so he was telling me all about FT and policies in the office, etc…And me, being the overeager, overachiever little girl told him that I already arranged for an editorial lineup mtg next week and that I invited both the advertising and graphics team to discuss the magazine, how to improve on it layout-wise, etc coz I told him I wanted to make some changes in the layout.
Gotta say, Singaporeans are very polite, even if they’re telling off their subordinates, haha…Or maybe he wasn’t really that upset, I don’t know. Anyways, he told me that I should hold off on the changes first. See how the magazine gets made first before I start overhauling it. Actually, he made a lot of sense, now that I think of it. No use antagonizing the natives until I’m sure of my footing. But my point was, since I was going to make changes in the magazine anyway, I might as well do it this early, right? But anyways, I’m doing it his way for now. Time enough to do my own thing when they’re comfy with the new girl. 😀
But hey, it’s my first week. I survived! I just looked out my window, the sun is shining, it looks like a beautiful day. I’ve a lot of work to do today, true. Guess all is right in the world.
Happy weekend, you guys!
