“Go then, there are other worlds than these.”

I am getting my full helping of geek so early in the day. King’s Dark Tower series is going to be in the movies and TV!! Woohoo! Eggziting! I fell into Roland Deschain’s world from the moment I read the first sentence of The Gunslinger, the first book: “The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed,” which I still think is one of the best opening lines I’ve ever read. I was a freshman in college, intimidated by my more self-assured batchmates and slowly realizing that I was nothing special, just one more over-achiever in an ocean full of them. Roland and his gunslingers kept this tall, nerdy, gangly girl (back when I was gangly, haha!) from being too alone even in the craziness of my college life.

The quote above is what Jake, about to plunge to his death, tells Roland, letting him off the hook for letting him die. Heartbreaking — and kind of freeing as well. Now, I want to read the books again!

“Go then, there are other worlds than these.”

My name is Terrie. I write for a living and blog for pleasure. Some days, I get up in the morning and know precisely what kind of day it is. At other times, I get knocked over for a loop. People seem to like confiding in me. When I was younger, I thought I knew everything and can tell you what you need to do if you ask me. Now that I'm older, I realize I don't know anything. That's been my motivation for the blog and for writing. To figure out the unknown and unknowable.
