So this is weird. This trailer for Wonder Woman, which premiered at the recent San Diego Comic Con, made me teary-eyed. It surprised me, my reaction. Imagine, a grownup getting emotional about a female superhero! And she wasn’t even my favorite superhero back then.

Lunchtime break: Random quotes

Ever since high school, I’ve jotted down quotes and passages from books, magazine articles, TV shows and movies I’ve watched, people I’ve met and even overheard conversations of random people in various notebooks that I’ve been lugging around with me ever since. But with the advent of Facebook and the various incarnations of social media (like this blog), my tendency to record stuff has tapered off, which is really a pity because jotting things down was sort of how I kept track of things that happened in my life (“Ahh! Wrote this while I was having coffee with whatshername and she told me about that thing with whatshisface…” stuff like that) or was a good creative source whenever I feel blocked about what I’m writing — which is what is happening now, actually. However, this past weekend, after updating my phone’s software, I was scrolling through my notes, and it turns out I’ve been jotting down or taking photos of random stuff and I just haven’t really realized it. So I’m putting them here, before I delete them forever from the phone. Warning, some are sappy, some are wise, some I’ve posted on my Instagram or posted on Facebook, some are funny and some are just plain, “huh?”

Geekery: 15-minute Game of Thrones preview

This totally made my Monday! I promised myself that will I stop posting the same thing on the different social media platforms I’m on (especially on my Tumblr, which I’ve hijacked for the 100 Happy Days Challenge), but I have to make an exception of this. I can’t wait for April!

And I need to get a move on with reading the books. Lordy….

Goodbye, Bunheads!

Continuing with my farewell kick, here’s the cast of Bunheads, in their “Farewell Dance”. Bunheads is the ABC TV series about a group of teen ballet dancers in a small California town, whose teachers are the awesome Sutton Foster (the original Millie in “Thoroughly Modern Millie” to theater geeks) and the even awesomer Kelly Bishop (Lorelei Gilmore’s mom to Gilmore Girls fans, the original Sheila in “A Chorus Line” to theater geeks).

Barebones synopsis of the series: Sutton plays Michelle, a Vegas showgirl, who dreams of making it big in Broadway. She marries a man on a whim (Alan Ruck — Cameron to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off fans), moves to a small town in California with him. He dies in an accident, leaving her and her mother-in-law, Fanny (Bishop), who runs a ballet school to get to know each other. Drama and (dance) hijinks ensue.

It’s a fun show and not just because of the dancing. It’s from Amy Sherman-Palladino, creator of the Gilmore Girls, so it has that same aesthetic and sensibility. I had thought that it would actually take off, given the likeable cast and the network-friendly premise and storyline. Alas, it didn’t.

So, here’s the farewell dance. This would have been perfect if Sutton Foster and Kelly Bishop also performed. But as it is, it’s great. Goodbye, Bunheads, I’ll miss you! It was fun playing in your sandbox!

I’ve been accused of geeking out too much about GoT on this blog. No apologies. Haven’t been this absorbed in a story since Battlestar Galactica more than three years ago! But this will be the last one (at least, until season 3 ends and the waiting begins), because Season 3 premieres today and I will get my jollies in actual episodes, so yay!

With season three looming over the horizon, fangirls and boys are now almost salivating with geekery over what the new season will bring. Personally, I need to finish reading A Storm of Swords this week (ack!) because much of what happens in the new season will come from this installment. I’m sure though that the people behind the TV series are going to stretch Book 3 into two seasons. There is no way everything will fit in one, I think!

But before the season premiere, here’s nymag’s quite comprehensive refresher course on all things Game of Thrones. Enjoy!
